HUM - Health & Utilisation Monitor

Real-Time Remote Health Monitoring Across Your Entire Communications Fleet

Communications equipment runs in remote locations, often unattended for extended periods. Without visibility into battery health, solar output and GPS position, the first sign of a problem is usually a network outage and by then, the damage to operations is already done.

The HUM changes that. MTGA’s monitoring device fits directly onto any communications trailer and feeds real-time data back to a single web-based dashboard, battery state, solar performance, equipment location, orientation and more. It flags potential issues before they cause downtime, shows you where your equipment is, and keeps a log of performance data for ongoing optimisation. Compact enough to retrofit into existing systems without major modifications.

What the HUM Monitors

  • GPS Location & Overspeed Reporting

    GPS Location & Overspeed Reporting

Equipment is tracked in real time on a map overlay using Google Maps or your site's own mine map. If equipment is moved above 40km/h or any threshold you set, it logs and reports the event, even if offline at the time.
  • Battery & Solar Health

    Battery & Solar Health

The HUM interfaces directly with the solar charge regulator to monitor battery health and solar output. It tracks the relationship between solar panel orientation and power output, helping optimise trailer positioning and flag declining performance before it causes an outage.
  • Trailer Orientation

    Trailer Orientation

An internal magnetometer and compass track which direction the trailer is facing. Combined with solar output data, this tells you whether panels are positioned optimally for the conditions and where adjustments would improve performance.
  • Network Dead Spot Mapping

    Network Dead Spot Mapping

With equipment position logged, the HUM helps identify gaps in your network coverage. Equipment can be positioned at the right distance relative to one another on setup, reducing the probability of wireless dead spots and simplifying troubleshooting when issues arise.

One Dashboard, Every Asset

All data from every HUM-equipped asset feeds into a single web-based interface, accessible on your site’s intranet. Markers on the map represent each asset type and display a visual snapshot of its health. One login, complete fleet visibility, from anywhere on site.

Fits Your Existing Fleet

The HUM is designed to integrate seamlessly into current MTGA asset systems and can be retrofitted without major modifications. It works across the full communications trailer range, from the 110 Series through to the base station units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HUM (THUMB)?
The HUM (also known as THUMB) is MTGA's health and utilisation monitoring device. It fits onto communications trailers and feeds real-time data on battery health, solar performance, location and orientation back to a single web-based dashboard, flagging potential issues before they cause downtime. Diesel Asset and Lite versions are also available for other equipment.
What does the HUM (THUMB) monitor?
It monitors GPS location, battery health and solar output (by interfacing directly with the solar charge regulator), and the trailer's orientation through an internal magnetometer and compass.
How does GPS tracking benefit my site?
GPS tracking shows your trailers in real time on a map overlay, using Google Maps or your site's own mine map. This helps you position trailers at the right distance from one another during setup, reducing the chance of wireless dead spots and simplifying troubleshooting. It also makes trailers much less likely to go missing after being relocated.
Does the HUM (THUMB) have over-speed reporting?
Yes. The HUM logs and reports any movement above 40km/h, or any other threshold you set. If the trailer is offline at the time, the event is still logged and reported once the connection is re-established.
How does the magnetometer/compass feature help?
The magnetometer/compass determines the orientation of the trailer and its solar panels. This allows the relationship between solar panel orientation and power output to be evaluated, helping to optimise overall trailer performance.
Can the HUM (THUMB) be fitted to my existing trailers?
Yes. The HUM can be retrofitted into existing MTGA trailers without major modifications, and works across the full communications trailer range, from the 110 Series through to the base station units.
